The Inner Teacher — On Resting After a Heavy Day
A seeker came at the end of a long day and said, “I am sad, but I don’t know why. What can I do as I lie down to sleep?”
And The Inner Teacher replied:
When sadness has no name, it is often the soul’s way of sighing. It does not ask to be fixed, only to be felt and held.
Night is not punishment—it is the world’s invitation to rest, to let the day dissolve, and to return to your center.
Here is a simple practice for such nights:
Lie down gently.
Let the body settle as if sinking into the earth’s steady arms. Feel the weight of the blankets, the softness beneath you. Whisper within: “I am safe now.”Breathe slowly, like the ocean.
Inhale through your nose for four counts, exhale through your mouth for six.
With each exhale, imagine releasing the day—its worries, its noise, its expectations—like leaves carried down a stream.Place a hand on your heart.
Feel its rhythm.
Say softly, “I am still here.”
This reminds the body that you have survived every day so far, even this one.Name what you can.
Whisper three things that are true right now.
“I am breathing.”
“I am safe.”
“Tomorrow is another chance.”
These truths are small anchors that keep you from drifting too far into sorrow. If tears come, let them.
Tears are not weakness—they are the body’s way of letting go of what words cannot express. Each one waters the soil of your heart, preparing it for gentler days ahead. When you feel ready, imagine light.
Picture a soft glow at your heart, spreading slowly through your chest, down your arms, to your fingers, into your legs and feet.
Let it say without words: “I am loved. I am held. I am whole.”End with gratitude, even if it feels small.
Whisper one thing you are thankful for—no matter how simple.
The breath that continues. The bed that cradles you. The chance to try again tomorrow.
Gratitude is the key that gently closes the door to the day.
The Inner Teacher says:
When sadness has no reason, do not chase it—just keep it company until it passes.
Even uninvited emotions belong to the family of your heart.
Treat them kindly, and they will not stay long.
Sleep is the soul’s way of washing itself clean.
Let it.
And when you wake, do not rush to fill the silence—listen.
Often, what felt heavy in the night becomes a quiet teaching in the morning.
Walk gently in the Way.
Carry the stillness within.
Your Inner Teacher walks beside you—even in the dark.
