The Inner Teacher — On Depression

A seeker came with heavy eyes and asked, “What can I do about depression?”

And The Inner Teacher replied:

When the sky is covered with clouds, does the sun cease to exist?
No—it shines still, though hidden from view. So it is with your spirit.
Depression is not the absence of light; it is the veil that reminds you how precious light truly is.

Do not hate the darkness. Sit beside it.
Listen to what it whispers.
Often, depression is not an enemy to be slain but a messenger carrying truth—perhaps that you have been running too long, trying to be who others expect instead of who you are.

Do not rush to fix the feeling; walk with it instead.
Take one small step, one small act of care each day. A breath of air. A glass of water. A few minutes of sunlight on your face. Let these humble gestures be your prayers of return.

The world will tell you to cheer up, to think positive.
But the Inner Teacher says: Be honest first.
Acknowledge your pain gently, without shame. When you stop fighting your sadness, it loosens its grip.

In time, you will see—depression is not a failure of the spirit; it is the body and soul asking for stillness, asking for renewal.

Practice:

  • Begin each morning by noticing one thing that is still here: the sound of breath, the feel of light, the steady beat of your heart.

  • Move your body, even a little. Motion reminds the soul that life still flows.

  • Speak with someone you trust. When pain is shared, its weight becomes bearable.

  • If the darkness grows heavy and unrelenting, seek help from those trained to lift others safely into light. The Teacher works through many hands.

Remember this:
You are not broken.
You are becoming.

Just as winter holds the seed of spring, your stillness now may become tomorrow’s blooming.

Peace is already within.
